Three Golden Rules for First Time Home Buyers

First Time Home Buyers Rule

3 GOLDEN RULES

When you are looking into buying your first home, you will probably hear a lot of advice from essentially every other home buyer you know–your parents, older siblings, co-workers… the list can go on and on. The most important thing is to hear all those tips and tricks, and just take them with a grain of salt. Ultimately, the only person that you need to make happy with this decision is you. So, be sure to stick to your guns, and you’ll have nothing to worry about. To start with you can search for phrases such as ‘houses for sale near me‘ and see where you go from there, taking it bit by bit.

Otherwise, there are a few rules all first time home buyers should pay attention to in order to make the whole process as painless as possible. Purchasing your first home can be stressful, and you may encounter a few bumps along the way, but you will make it! Just follow these guidelines below:

Be realistic about location. This is a factor that will only make things worse the longer you have to deal with it. For instance, you may find the perfect house, but it’s a pretty long commute to your job. You will have to decide if you can actually see yourself being satisfied enough with that house to justify the longer trip to and from work everyday.

Commute

Get pre-approved. Do not (I REPEAT, DO NOT) start looking for homes if you don’t know what you can actually afford. Not only will this be frustrating to your realtor, but you could also wind up breaking your own heart by falling in love with said home.

Approved

Don’t be too picky. This is your first house, and most likely, this won’t be the home to be the “dream home” just yet. However, it is just as exciting and memorable. Whether you are moving in alone, with a new spouse, or family member, this home will be a beautiful memory one day. That being said, accept a few flaws, fix up what you can, and make it your own.

Most of all… Enjoy the process. You only buy your first home once!
